“We get an ultrasound for every vein patient because even if you have some superficial spider veins you still have to check for any underlying vein disease.”
“Also, if you want to claim any rebate from Medicare for sclerotherapy, Medicare requires every patient to get this ultrasound first, so deeper vein issues can be treated if necessary to help prevent risk of spider veins simply coming back.”
He says the good news is that for many patients with spider veins, there is often no deeper vein disease that needs to be treated.
